2010-07-28 28.7.2010 13,000 Euros for therapeutic riding

A great success for therapeutic riding: In the scope of the "Moments of Luck" campaign, the huge platform of the World Equestrian Festival, CHIO Aachen, was used to attract attention to therapeutic riding and sports for the disabled - and of course to collect donations. During the religious service on Soers Sunday and during the show week volunteers collected donations totalling 13,000 Euros for this good cause. The CHIO organisers, Aachen Laurensberger Rennverein e.V. (ALRV) have been supporting the "Moments of Luck" campaign of the German Foundation for Therapeutic Riding e.V. (DKThR) since 1998. The aim of the campaign is to attract attention to the preventative, soothing and healing effect that horses have on people. Furthermore, donations were collected in aid of therapeutic riding in general and for the first time also especially for the Children's Support Fund (KUF) of the DKThR. "Many people can't imagine that a horse can be a physiotherapist, teacher or even a psychotherapist," explained ALRV's President, Carl Meulenbergh. Tens of thousands of Euros have already been collected in the scope of the campaign, 80,000 Euros during the FEI World Equestrian Games 2006 alone. On November 25th, the DKThR will be celebrating its 40th anniversary. "We are extremely pleased to receive such a generous donation in our anniversary year. As a result of their readiness to donate many people are signalling to us that the theme therapeutic riding has been accepted by the public. We guarantee that the donations will be managed in a responsible manner and will be used to support those areas, where help is particularly needed," commented Cornelia von Rüxleben-Plöger, Chairwoman of the DKThR. As well as the medical-therapeutic areas, equestrian sports for the disabled (Para-Equestrian) plays a central role in the DKThR's task field. At the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky in the autumn, non-handicapped and dressage riders with a handicap will be forming a team together for the first time ever. Para-Equestrian has been adopted within the FEI family as the 8th discipline and in this connection the equestrian sport is taking on a pioneering role compared to other sports. www.chioaachen.de
