2010-07-23 Purina Mills Offers a chance to WIN A FREE RIDE to the Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix at HITS-on-the-Hudson

SAUGERTIES, NY (July 23, 2010)--Thanks to Purina Mills, Official Equine Feed of HITS Horse Shows, spectators have a chance to win a trip to the unprecedented Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix that will take place on Sunday, September 12 at HITS-on-the-Hudson, in Saugerties, New York. Purina Mills has been the Official Equine Feed for all HITS Horse Shows nationwide, including HITS Saugerties, HITS Culpeper and the Marshall & Sterling League National Finals since 2001. In honor of the Pfizer Million, Purina Mills has created a once-in-a-lifetime sweepstakes that offers the grand prize winner a trip for two to the historic Hudson Valley for the largest Grand Prix purse ever held in the United States! Aside from roundtrip airfare for two, the Purina Mills Sweepstakes winner will receive front-row seats to the Grand Prix, a three-night stay at the luxurious Beekman Arms located in the quaint Village of Rhinebeck, New York. Beekman Arms is the oldest Inn in America and has played host to Presidents, dignitaries and Hollywood celebrities. Grand Prix Riders have been competing since January in order to earn a spot into the field. Currently, the standings boast some of the top riders in North America, including Canadian Olympian Jill Henselwood, who sits in first place aboard Bradon Construction’s Bottom Line. Two-Time Olympic Gold Medalist McLain Ward has competed at HITS Thermal and HITS Saugerties and is on the cusp of cracking the Eligible Rider Rankings with just two more qualifying Grand Prix classes needed to make the list. Ward has already made it clear that if qualified, he plans to ride his mare Sapphire in the Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix. In order for Grand Prix Riders to earn a ticket to compete in the Pfizer $ 1 Million Grand Prix, they must compete in at least eight Grand Prix Classes throughout the season. The top 40 based on prize money won will earn a spot in the order of go. In addition, the winner of the $50,000 Pfizer Million Wild Card Grand Prix is qualified if they win the blue ribbon and are not already in the top 40. The Wild Card Grand Prix takes place on Saturday, September 11 at HITS-on-the-Hudson. HITS also may issue five invitations making the field a potential 46 horse-and-rider teams. At the conclusion of the Pfizer Million, Grammy Award winning Rock & Roll Hall of Fame singer/songwriter John Fogerty will perform live in concert at the HITS-on-the-Hudson show grounds before thousands of equestrians and music lovers alike.
